Target’s mission is “to help all families discover the joy of everyday life.” What does that look like in 2025?
“To help all families discover the joy of everyday life” is Target’s purpose and mission. It’s the promise of surprises, fun, ease and inspiration at every turn, no matter when, where or how you shop.
Target Forward is a comprehensive sustainability strategy across your enterprise. One such program Denim Take Back was launched last summer. Can you tell us about that event and its impact?
In 2024, we held our first-ever Denim Take Back Event that let guests recycle outgrown denim of any brand and receive 20% off a new denim apparel purchase with Target Circle – all while providing guests an opportunity to give their old products new life while keeping denim out of landfills. Events like Target's Denim Take Back Event respond to growing consumer interest in products and programs that help reduce waste and furthers our commitment to creating and curating inclusive, sustainable brands and experiences. The program built on the success of our guest-favorite Car Seat Trade-in program, which has recycled 2.6 million car seats and 39.7 million pounds of materials since 2016.
Guided by a deep commitment of giving back, Target supports its guests and communities across the U.S. through numerous initiatives. What are some of them?
Target’s culture of care means making an impact in the communities we serve. By rolling up our sleeves and working hand-in-hand with local partners, we walk alongside the communities where our guests and team members live, work and grow, transforming spaces into places that inspire and uplift. In 2024, Target team members volunteered more than 1 million hours in communities. 21,000+ nonprofits received philanthropic donations and $406M in products and cash was donated by Target and Target Foundation. Throughout 2024, teams volunteered in 14 major cities, devoting time with key partners such as Points of Light, Habitat for Humanity and other organizations committed to revitalizing the neighborhoods our communities call home. We also teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to make sure kids had the back-to-school essentials they needed to start their school year off right — and with Big Brothers Big Sisters, our team members are volunteering as “Bigs” to help close the gap on the 30,000 youth on the waiting list for a mentor.
